About Me
If you’re looking for a therapist, you might be curious about what I’m like as a person, not just which qualifications I have.
I’m a psychotherapeutic counsellor and trauma therapist, but I’m also a mum, a business owner, thoroughly addicted to learning about being human, and someone who has spent most of my working life alongside people during some of the hardest, messiest, darkest and most significant periods of their lives.
My approach is warm, down-to-earth and honest. I’m not easily shocked, and you don’t need to polish the messy or dark bits of your experiences. I also believe therapy should help you move – not just give you a comfortable place to stay stuck.
I will never pretend to have all the answers. You’re the expert in your own life. My role is to help you understand yourself, your experiences, your feelings and your patterns more clearly, so that you can make more aligned choices from a place of greater awareness.
Think of me as a guide, a visitor in the landscape of your life. I’ll bring the lantern, and walk alongside you. I’ll accompany you in the parts you want to explore, but I might also ask why we’re avoiding that particular area, or why we keep returning to the same spot. Sometimes we might just stop and stay a while if it feels necessary. Other times we might decide not to visit at all.
I’ve spent many, many years working with people in vulnerable and challenging circumstances, across community services, healthcare, charities and private practice. I’ve supported people affected by trauma, abuse, care experience, parenting difficulties, loss, health issues and complex circumstances.
Each of those incredibly valuable experiences has impacted how I approach my work – I’ve learned that there is rarely a simple explanation for why someone is struggling – and people deserve to be understood holistically, in the context of their whole story.
I’m especially curious about past experiences that continue to influence the way we behave and see ourselves, how we experience our relationships and the world around us, and I’m also fascinated by the really big questions you might ask yourself.
Who am I?
What actually matters to me?
Why am I here?
I don’t believe therapists need to sit behind some kind of professional persona – I’m human too, and I think that being able to bring some humanity, humour and honesty into therapy can make the whole process feel much less intimidating.
I truly believe that therapy can be life changing, and can lead you a deeper, stronger connection with yourself, others and the world around you. I am extremely passionate about my work and will work hard with you to achieve your goals.
