Clinical Case Consultation with Lyndsey Adderley

£60 · 60 minutes

A confidential, collaborative space for therapists who want to think through and explore complex, challenging or ‘stuck’ cases with an experienced practitioner.

Case consultation provides an opportunity to slow things down, focus deeply and be curious. We can work through what might be happening within the therapeutic relationship, and consider different perspectives and approaches. We may explore attachment, trauma, relational dynamics and your own responses to the work. Sessions are exploratory rather than directive. Consultation is intended to complement and not replace the therapist’s existing clinical supervision. The therapist remains responsible for their clinical decisions.

We will explore through the lenses of:

  • attachment
  • trauma and developmental trauma
  • relational dynamics
  • therapist/client dynamics
  • formulation
  • therapeutic impasses
  • boundaries
  • the therapist’s own responses to the client
  • alternative ways of understanding what’s happening

Under the BACP Ethical Framework, ‘case consultation’ is explicitly defined as seeking specialist advice outside of your regular clinical supervision to safely manage complex client issues, ethical dilemmas, or legal requirements. While monthly supervision is a mandatory, broad framework requirement, case consultation is an active, targeted response used when a specific client presentation falls outside your current scope of knowledge or requires immediate specialist support.

Case consultation is not clinical supervision and does not replace the therapist’s usual supervision arrangements. The therapist retains clinical responsibility for their client and their clinical decisions.
